We were not satisfied. Returned product

The Bottom Line: Exec. Summary: Not Recommended, why? B/c I returned mine; read above...
Bought DC-14 b/c DC-07 was older model and wanted the latest and greatest (the cyclonic ones were inverted making the unit a little smaller and the turbo tool on the DC-14 had twice the cleaning path as the DC-07 attachment). I like having "cool" stuff and the Dyson in general is as cool as vacuums get. Root cyclones, debris whirring around, space-age plastic parts and body, turbo tool, quiet operation (kind-of), plenty of positive reviews.
Purchased from Best Buy with a discount coupon and 6 months same as cash incentive. Cardboard box even has a handle for ease in transport. After a few snaps here and there, vacuuming in 3 minutes. First time vacuuming, no problems at all, our place even felt cleaner. But then again, we have no kids or pets, so we're pretty clean most of the time. Did carpets and floors fine.
During 2nd vacuuming, my wife had what she describes a "frightening" experience. During vacuuming about every five minutes or so, a VERY LOUD, disturbing grinding, rubbing noise comes from the bottom. We'd shut it off right away (mostly b/c the noise was really loud), checked all the areas that needed to be checked for clogs or jammed items and found nothing... Proceeded to vacuum again, five minutes later, same noise. Also, when my wife tried to do the stairs, she couldn't just leave the unit at the bottom and extend the hose 17 feet and vacuum all the steps like in the picture. The hose is "accordian-style" so when you pull it past four feet, it follows you around. For $549, you should get a head light. Also, the auto height adjustment hasn't convinced me, I'd rather have a knob w/ several positions for carpet height.
Returned the Dyson and Cust Svc Supervisor who helped me said they sell a lot of these Dysons, but a lot of them get returned. So, I thought at least I'm not the only one. Then after 30 minutes of shopping for other items, while checking out, there was another couple returning a DC-07 and they didn't seem "satisfied" with it either...
