ARTIST’S DESCRIPTION Texas Downs Station is between Turkey Creek (Warmun Community) and Purnululu (Bungle Bungles). To the north east of the Station is the big hill country of Red Butte. Texas Downs is my mother’s country (June Peters- well known ochre artist). Our whole family and many of the other Kitja people who worked on the station visit this area to show the children how beautiful it is. We camp out here and it’s so good to get away into the bush. The old people say it makes everyone stronger. _________________ _________ ARTIST PROFILE Deanne Peters Deanne Peters was born 14/05/1987 in Derby Western Australia. She grew up and schooled at Turkey Creek and then Darwin. She is of the Kitja skin and her bush name is Nangala. After completing her education in Darwin- she returned to Turkey Creek (Warmun) and now spends her time between Turkey Creek and Kununurra. She is the eldest daughter of June Peters- an established ochre artist. Deanne is a promising young artist with a natural talent Less
